Welcome to 2021 as we seem to be moving towards more of a (COVID-19) normal existence. 2020 presented significant challenges in many ways, but particularly for our 2020 Year 12 cohort, aspiring and working to do their best in their final year.
While 2020 was an unprecedented year for the School, in some ways it was very much business as usual (apart from delayed VCE examinations) for our Year 12 students. The 2020 Year 12’s maintained our impressive VCE and IB results, with our median ATAR up slightly at just under 82, and our percentage of students above 80, 85, 90 and 95 all up from 2019, which were themselves up on 2018. First and second round offers were maintained at 80+%, so our Year 12 students had direction, application, commitment, and a vision for their future that they were able to achieve. All this during an extremely taxing year. We were both very pleased for them, and very proud of them.
The start of the 2021 school year has been an interesting and varied one. The first two weeks were terrific, with a return to a far more normal life clearly appreciated by students, staff, and parents alike. We returned to parents and other visitors permitted on campus and then we had the snap 5-day lockdown. All feedback from students, parents and our staff has been that we did that calmly and smoothly, and the teaching program continued online without pause from the Monday morning.
We have since returned to campus with one of the first events being the Class of 2011 reunion. We had a terrific afternoon with a sizeable group in attendance, who continued the celebrations at a local bar. We very much hope this will now be the norm for our alumni reunions and I look forward to seeing you at yours. We have a significant number of reunions coming up over 2021, and that will include reunions postponed from 2020. I hope you will be able to attend yours.
If you would like to come on to campus at any time for a re-visit or to see how the campus looks now, please contact Di Lacey in the Community Relations Office to arrange a time – we would love to see you!
Best wishes for a productive and enjoyable year in all areas of your life and we hope to see you soon.
