Welcome to the inaugural Tintern Grammar alumni newsletter (any names suggestions will be gratefully received). It is a pleasure to make a small contribution to this, as like the early shoots of spring, it is the first tangible presence of the combined Tintern Grammar alumni body.
I encourage you to share your stories and news through this newsletter by emailing communityrelations@tintern.vic.edu.au. As a starting point we ask you to complete the alumni survey found here to help us better understand how we currently manage your needs and how we can improve.
We aim to publish an alumni newsletter each term and will be guided by what you send in for us to share. We will also keep you updated on any major events and activities across our School such as our biennial Giant FAIR coming up on Saturday 30 March and our annual Cathedral Service on Sunday 5 May at St Paul’s Cathedral in the city. The spectacular firework display at the end of our FAIR is a sight not to be missed.
In this first edition we have shared our fabulous results and tertiary destinations from our Class of 2018 and news from TOGA.
This edition also includes a nomination link for our second instalment of outstanding alumni to the Avenue of Excellence and a newsletter wouldn’t be complete without announcements, where you are encouraged to share your birth and marriage celebrations as well as any alumni bereavements. For future editions please send your notices to communtyrelations@tintern.vic.edu.au.
We are drawing closer to establishing our new combined Tintern Grammar alumni group. Recently, in the beautiful newly landscaped Year 9 Courtyard we enjoyed conversation with a mixed group of young men and women of a range of Southwood and Tintern vintages to pledge their interest in creating a management committee for the Tintern Grammar Alumni (TGA). As Paul Kelly sang, “From little things, big things grow” and the dozen or so people who were able to attend, along with an equal number of interested apologies, all mark the beginning of this significant cornerstone of our community as a combined school.
I am very grateful to all those who put themselves forward and indicated their desire to contribute. A vibrant and active alumni association is one mark of a connected, and active school community and I look forward to watching the formalising of the committee in the near future, together with the emergence of the broader activities the TGA will run on behalf of all our alumni and the broader School community.
In closing, I invite you to visit the Calendar of events page where, in addition to our community events and activities, you will notice dates of upcoming reunions and, if you have school aged children you may also be interested to note the School’s tour and information dates.
Our school, for the past 142 years has focused on each students’ success, quiet or public and ability to contribute to the world beyond school. The alumni also allows us to keep up with the many triumphs of our past students and inspire our current students. Thank you to our strong alumni who work with the current students to illustrate life-long learning and connection with Tintern. Your contribution to this vibrant community is truly appreciated.
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart”. Helen Keller
Best wishes
