Principal’s Message

Welcome to the Term 1 Alumni News.

I am writing this to you as we face the uncertain times ahead, as a school, national and global community.

As a school we are grateful for the support and collaboration with our Tintern Alumni. Whether sharing your expertise and experience at special events such as the Career’s Night, International Women’s Day or the Year 12 Conferences, attending Reunions or the many other interactions that happen on a regular basis, our Alumni are an integral and valuable part of our school Community.

You will be well aware that the situation involving the Covid-19 virus is a constantly changing one. I do want to emphasise that we have had no cases of Covid-19 in the school, nor any concerns around it at this point. However, events around us in Australia and across the world have indicated that this situation could change very quickly.

As we face these unprecedented times, we want to show you our support in any way we can. If your business is facing difficult times or you have had to reshape your business platform to accommodate the changing landscape, please contact Di Lacey, our Alumni and Community Relations Manager by email communityrelations@tintern.vic.edu.au or by phone on 03 9845 7893 to discuss how we can help promote your business.

At Tintern Thursday 19 March saw the announcement that our students would transition from face to face teaching on campus, to online learning in their homes for all students. This commenced on Monday 23 March and based on feedback from parents, students and staff, our early forays into online delivery have gone very well, reflecting the preparations by staff and a clear ‘rising to the challenge’ maturity by students.

At this time we have closed the campus to members of the community other than staff, and also to visitors until further notice. So any contact with the School will need to be done by email or telephone please.

Many of you will be looking to the future and wondering what is ahead of us, both for yourselves and loved ones, and in our broader world. We are no doubt reading the same articles, watching the same press conferences and we are all trying to anticipate and plan for the coming weeks and months ahead.

I cannot express my gratitude strongly enough for the commitment and work ethic that our students, staff, volunteers, and all in our Community, have shown individually and collectively over this very challenging period.

For Tintern Grammar and our wider community our key criteria in any decisions about our offerings in Term 2 will be twofold; the health and wellbeing of all our community members, and the care, academic development and broader growth of our students. These decisions will be made taking into account any government directives that come out of the State and Federal government meetings.

Sadly, due to this situation the decision has also been made to cancel the Career’s Night for 2020. We will offer this event in 2021 and look forward to seeing many of you then. Thank you to the many Alumni who had already signed on to be a part of this event. Your willingness to share your expertise and experience with our current Tintern students is greatly appreciated.

The Community Relations Office will continue to contact our Alumni in the event of further cancellations of upcoming Reunions or events. If you have any questions or concerns about this please contact Di Lacey or Tegan Martin in Community Relations on 03 9845 7877 or communityrelations@tintern.vic.edu.au

To all of our Alumni Community, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well as we navigate the difficult times ahead.

Warm regards,

Bradley Fry
Principal
